Fast rising Nigerian pop star, Ayo Balogun popularly called Wizkid, was announced winner of the Best International Act (Africa) at the BET awards held in Los Angeles, US, on Sunday.
Wizkid shared the prize with Ghanaian sensation, Sarkodie.
The 22-year-old Wizkid beat Camp Mulla (Kenya); Ice Prince (Nigeria); Lira (South Africa); and Mokobe (Mali) to the coveted prize.
Nigerian past winners of the award include 2Face Idibia and D’Banj who jointly won it in 2011.
This is the second major international award won by the singer who started off his career at the age of 11 ,when he recorded his first song with one of Nigeria’s foremost producer, OJB Jezreel.
Wizkid also won the award for Best African Act at the 2011 edition of the Music of Black Origin, Awards held in Glasgow, Scotland.
Other winners included Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and Jay-Z and his wife, Beyoncé.
US-based Nigerian rapper, Wale, also won the 2012 BET Award for Best Collaboration for his chart-topping single with Miguel titled Lotus Flower Bomb in his second album, Ambition.
