The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has raised the alarm on the proliferation of vigilance groups in Anambra State.

The group urged the government to abolish all “torture chambers” of vigilance groups.

In a statement in Awka by its chairman, Alloy Attah and secretary, Justus Ijeoma, the CLO said government should probe the activities of all local security groups, publish an authentic list of accredited vigilance groups and disband all other quasi groups.

The group said there should be a functional internal control mechanism to put all the abuses in check.

According to CLO, such arrangement should include an open and dedicated phone line where people could report cases of abuse by the operatives.
