Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, has ordered investigation into the N314 million allegedly deducted from the state’s federation account by the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) being payment for alleged supply of fertiliser to the state.
Besides, the government is also probing deductions made by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for alleged tax evasion by the last administration
in the state.
The sum of N114 million was deducted by the FAAC for the purported supply of fertilizer to the state government, while the FIRS was paid the sum of N200 million for alleged tax related issues incurred under the administration of former Governor Timipre Sylva.
Dickson who disclosed this while speaking newsmen on the monthly transparency briefing on the finances of the state since he took office, said that though his administration had promptly paid up the N314m from the May federation allocation, but he had ordered for a detailed investigation into the deductions, adding that the veracity of the claim on the supply of fertilizer is necessary.
He said the state’s Ministries of Agriculture and Finance have been directed to investigate the deductions and submit reports on both deductions in seven days.
“We are paying for fertiliser, I am interested in knowing how many were supplied, the beneficiaries and other issues. On the FIRS deduction of N200million, I have directed the Commissioner of Finance to give me details on this,” he added.
