It has been revealed that the arrested leader of the Niger Delta Peole’s Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari has been released by the Benin Republic government.
According to the information gathered, President Jonathan intervened to discuss his release with the President of Benin Republic, Yayi Boni.
A civil rights activist Festus Keyamo, and personal lawyer to Mr. Asari Dokubo confirmed his release.
Asari Spent 36 hours in the detention after being arrested since yesterday. President Jonathan was said to have arranged a private jet to fly him back to Abuja immediately after his release.
MEND and other groups loyal to Asari have threatened to strike if the ex-militant was not released in due course, and the reason for his arrest is still unknown.
