Abuja – An Abuja High Court on Friday granted bail to Felix Uwusuru, 28, of Lugbe, Abuja, who allegedly raped a minor.

Justice Usman Musale of the high court, granted Uwusuru, an electrical technician, bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

The judge said the court admitted the accused to bail because there was no objection from the prosecution counsel, Miss Prisca Oguamalam.

“The prosecution did not raise any objection to granting of bail for the accused, although the offence for which the accused is standing trial is not ordinarily bailable.

“The applicant has complied with provisions of sections 34 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“Bail is, therefore, granted to the accused person in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum,’’ he ruled.

Musale adjourned the case to April 9 for continuation of hearing.

It will be recalled that Uwusuru was arraigned on Nov. 21.

Oguamalam had told the court that the accused forcibly had sex with the 16-year-old on Sept. 9, at FHA Phase 2, Lugbe.

She said the offence contravened Section 282 of the Penal Code

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge, claiming that the sexual act was a mutual agreement.

The accused counsel, Mr Akintola Amao, filed the bail application on Dec, 10. (NAN)
