The Secretary of the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria in Ogun State, Alhaji Abimbola Awofeso, has alleged threats to his life.
In text messages to some ACN leaders, including the party’s National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, Awofeso said that some armed men, who claimed to be operatives of the State Security Service, had threatened to eliminate him and members of his family.
The text message, obtained in Abeokuta on Friday by our correspondent, reads, “This morning, an SIB operative came to my house in Sagamu to say that information had reached them that I was planning to organise a rally against the Ogun State Government in Ibadan today.
“It is absolutely untrue. I spoke with another operative, a senior person who has fixed a meeting between us for tomorrow. For some days I have been approached by some strangers who claim to represent SSS and some armed men threatened my life and those of my children and wife. In case they succeed, I wish them good luck.”
About 70 members of the party were on Thursday morning apprehended allegedly on the orders of Governor Ibikunle Amosun while on their way to Ibadan for the ACN zonal meeting.
