The leadership of the youth wing of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party Thursday issued a two-week ultimatum to Governor Adams Oshiomhole to tender unreserved apology to the former chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, Chief Tony Anenih and the entire members of the party over his earlier statement that it was the leadership of the party that masterminded the killing of his private secretary, Oyerinde Olaitan.
The youth leader of PDP in the state, Vincent Ose Akhere, stated this while addressing newsmen in Benin City. He carpeted the leadership of the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for its inability to provide adequate security for the protection of lives and property of residents, particularly, that of the late Oyerinde.
“Consequently on behalf of the PDP youths in Edo State, I am using this medium to call on Governor Oshiomhole to within the next 14 days tender an unreserved apology to Edo PDP and its leaders failing which we shall legitimately seek legal redress.”
According to Akhere “You will recall that some time ago, Oshiomhole accused the PDP and its leaders of being responsible for the killing of his Private Secretary by unknown gunmen in his private residence in Benin. I am happy to inform you that the cat has been let out of the bag through the confessional statements made to the police and SSS.”
“The youths therefore challenge the ACN-led government in the state to hide its head in shame for its inability to secure the lives and property of Edo people particularly such a high profile personality in government who died in the hands of those social miscreants.”
He commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, and operatives of the SSS “for their proactive efforts at unravelling those behind the dastardly act.”
Meanwhile, following the parade of six suspects Thursday by the State Security Services (SSS) who confessed to robbing and killing Oyerinde, the stakeholder on Conflict Resolution and Early Warning has called for the immediate release of Rev. David Ugolor who was being held by the police in connection with the murder.
A press statement signed by Igbotako Nowinta, Executive Director of the group and made available to newsmen, said the claim by the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) drafted from Abuja to investigate the matter was a suspect in the matter was not only spurious but utterly baseless.
