Four persons, Sunday Echia, Edeh Anthony, William Ejeh and Idoko John were on Tuesday arraigned at a Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court for unlawful possession of firearm.

The Police prosecutor, Thomas Ogah, told the court that the suspects, all students of University of Agriculture, Makurdi, were arrested by policemen on patrol.

Ogah said the police team intercepted a Volkswagen vehicle in which the accused persons were and that when the vehicle was searched, one locally-made pistol was recovered from the occupants.

“During police investigation, it was discovered that the first suspect had concealed the weapon in his waist but on sighting the police he hid it under the driver’s seat, “the News Agency of Nigeria quoted the police prosecutor as saying in the court.

However, when the case came up for mention, pleas were not taken.

The prosecution said investigation into the case was ongoing and asked for a new date for mention.
The Chief Magistrate, Cecilia Bakare, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in the Federal Prison, Makurdi and adjourned the case to October 10 for further mention.
