Gunmen kill tea vendor in Maiduguri

MAIDUGURI – A tea vendor, who is an indigene of Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa state, (name withheld) was shot dead at his shop in Gomari ward in Maiduguri when two suspected gunmen attacked the shop by 8pm Wednesday.

Also it was reported that two  customers of the tea vendor  were also  injured in the attack.

An anonymous eyewitness  stated that  “the slain tea vendor was to travel to Michika today (Thursday), before the suspected gunmen trailed him to his shop in Gomari ward, two kilometers south of Nigeria Air Force NAF) base,” and that the sect, early this year, had issued a warning letter to the tea vendor to vacate his residence and shop.

The Joint Task Force (JTF) rushed to the scene Thursday morning and cordoned off  the area preventing further attacks and killings.

Confirming the incident to newsmen in Maiduguri, the Borno state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gideon Jibrin said: “we received the reports of yesterday’s (Wednesday) attacks and killing in Gomari of the tea vendor this morning by two suspected gunmen.

”The body of the tea seller has been deposited at the Specialists Hospital Maiduguri for autopsy and identifications by relations of the deceased.”

He further disclosed that besides the killing, two other persons sustained wounds from stray bullets used during the attack on the tea vendor by 8pm.

On whether arrests were made, he said no, not yet, but investigations has commenced by the police and the JTF on fishing out the culprits.
