A member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Lanre Odubote, on Wednesday endorsed the Senate rejection of autonomy for local government councils in Nigeria.

Odubote (ACN-Lagos) also endorsed the proposal by the Senate to give presiding officers of the National Assembly life pension.

According to Odubote, local governments cannot be autonomous without the states being free from the control of the federal government.

He said it would be unconstitutional to support autonomy for local governments when the revenue accruing to them was still being centrally collected.
