The untimely death of a-25-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Mr Yinka Gbenaje, has reportedly been generating rumpus in Ipetumodu, headquarters of Ife-North Local Government Council Area of the State of Osun. Gbenaje was reportedly killed last Monday night by yet-to-be identified suspects, who attacked the deceased while returning home from his work.
According to sources at Ipetumodu, the deceased was found dead along Ipetumodu-Ode-Omu road in the early hours of Tuesday, even as his money, mobile phones and other belongings were found on him. The impeccable source, who prayed not to be named, disclosed that the remains of the deceased were found tied to a tree, while his motorcycle was burnt by his killers. Gbenaje’s death has become the talk of the town in Ipetumodu and other neighbouring towns which include Yakooyo, Waasimi, Edunabon and Mooro among others.
OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the matter has since been reported to the police at the Ipetumodu Police Division on Tuesday; just as security agents have been reported to have started investigating the matter. It was learnt that no arrest has so far been made on the matter as at the time of filing this report.
Residents of Ipetumodu, who spoke with the medium under condition of anonymity, described Gbenaje as a gentleman, who hailed from Baakun Compound of the ancient town. The residents expressed shock on the death of the deceased, wondering why Gbenaje could be murdered and his motorcycle burnt, yet, his money, phones and other belongings were found on his corpse.
While urging the police to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased, the aggrieved residents described the incident as strange in the history of the community.
