A group, Conference of Islamic Organisations, has urged people to stop peddling rumours on the missing television presenter, Alhaji Razaq Gawat.

CIO at a press briefing addressed by its coordinator, Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaib, in Lagos on Thursday said peddling rumours on Gawat would further added to the pains his family was passing through at the moment.

Shuaib said, “We appeal to rumour mongers who have spread all manners of fake reports to please desist from this ungodly act.

“No matter the gains of the rumour to those who peddle it, it is certainly incomparable to the psychological trauma that the disappearance of Gawat has brought on his family and friends around the world every day they wake up to see that their beloved one is yet to return. Islam abhors rumour peddling in all its ramifications.”

He said Gawat’s continuous clueless missing would be blamed on the failure of security agencies and endemic corruption in government circle.

The group’s coordinator said it was disappointing that after the Federal Government had spent billions of naira to launch information gathering satellite into the space and awarding billion of naira contract on Circuit Television, security was still a major challenge in the country.

Shuaib said the full joy of this year Ramadan would be incomplete in the homes of expectant or potential beneficiaries of Gawat’s programme, where mouth-watering gifts were given to callers who answered his questions.

“Several donors to the programme too have also been denied the unquantifiable Ramadan rewards of good deeds. The up-comers who gain knowledge of Islam through this programme have also been confined to perpetual ignorance, which kills more than diseases and ammunition. There are just too many angles to the missing of this great television presenter,” he said.

Stressing the importance of security of life and property of the citizenry, he called on the federal and state governments to deploy all necessary security apparatus to fish out the captors of Gawat and free the man unhurt.

He thanked Governor Babatunde Fashola and the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, for their personal efforts since presenter of ‘E dide e ji sari’ on Nigerian Television Authority, Lagos, was declared missing penultimate Wednesday.

Prior to the press briefing, a prayer, which had in attendance Islamic scholars such as Sheik AbdurRaham Ahmad, Abdullahi Akinbode, Dhikrullahi Shafi’i, Sulaimon Adangba, among others, was held at the Lagos State Secretariat Central Mosque.
