Vandals stall Arepo pipelines’ repairs

An official of the Pipelines Products Marketing Company said on Friday that vandals have continued to stall repair works on the company’s vandalised petroleum products pipelines at Arepo, Ogun State.

The top management official, who preferred anonymity, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on telephone in Lagos.

He told NAN correspondents that two of the company’s technical personnel who were carrying out repairs on the pipelines on Thursday were attacked by the vandals.

“We planned to fix the damaged pipelines to restore the pumping of petroleum products into the system, but our workers were attacked and they are currently receiving treatment.

“Two technical personnel and a management staff who were carrying out the repairs were injured by the vandals who exchanged gunshots with security personnel,’’ he said.

He said the PPMC staff sustained injuries when the vandals engaged men of the security agencies in a shoot-out.

The official explained that security personnel were deployed to the area to provide security cover and to also enhance the restoration of effective pumping of petroleum products.

He, however, assured that the PPMC personnel would continue with the repair work on the damaged pipelines at the weekend.
