- CSO forces officers out of offices
Student Union Government’s President, Ogbidi Osemudiamen has decried the continuous victimization and unjust treatment himself and his officers continued to receive from the management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State.
A new problem emerged on Wednesday after the Chief Security Officer (CSO) Mr. Greg Aruhor mobilized his men to force the student’s leadership: The SUG President, the Secretary-General, and the Assistant Secretary-General of the Student Union out of their offices.
The problem started when the aggrieved students refused to return the keys to their offices to the CSO who, according to information gathered, had ordered for them.
The students were suspended by the management after the union took to the street over the unexplained increased in school/hostel fees.
The management suspended the students for protesting on the same day the school was convocating, thereby bringing public humiliation to the institution.
NAIJA CENTER NEWS had reported the students were recalled after stakeholders including the convener of the MidWest Movement, Dr. Pedro Obaseki intervened.
Speaking with our correspondent, Ogidi confirmed the incident, adding that he had contacted NANs who advised him to be calm.
“The CSO mobilized his men to my office today, overpowered me and change my door key. As I speak with you my office, sec Gen, pro, and asg can’t access their office.
“He has been asking for the key since Monday when we went to the office. And I have maintained a ground that, he should stop calling me, Upon this, I had to call the NANS President to inform him, and he said I shouldn’t give him
“After their meeting today, he also called me and requested for the same keys, I still insist I won’t give him. Then he has to mobilise his men in full capacity to change my key. I called the NANS President he said he will see them tomorrow.
“We are Been victimized unjustly on the ground that we can’t defeat management” He lamented.
Several efforts made by NAIJA CENTER NEWS to reach out to Mr. Aruhor proved abortive as several calls placed at the time of filing this report were not answered.
