UNIBEN reviews increment in charges, SUG suspension

The Management of the University of Benin has approved that there would be no increase in the fees/charges paid by all returning students for the 2017/2018 academic session.

The University Management is also reviewing the decision that led to the suspension of the Students’ Union Government of the University of Benin, as all issues pertaining to the students’ protest in November 2017 have been addressed.

The Governing Council has approved N1,000 (one thousand naira) as Students Union dues for all returning students. Consequently, all returning science students are to pay N15,400 (Fifteen thousand four hundred naira only) and non-science students should pay N13,400 (Thirteen thousand four hundred naira only), each-inclusive of SUG dues.

The Governing Council also reduced the hostel charges for the undergraduate hostels (Halls 1, 2, 3, and 4 for Ugbowo Campus and Ekehuan Campus Hostels) to N17,000 (Seventeen thousand naira) for the session. All fees/charges for new students will be reduced by about 50% in their second year in the University, excluding accommodation charges.

The management had shut down academic sessions over the protest by the Students Union Government on 24 November.
