Unknown gunmen on Thursday shot two Nigeria Police – inspectors and a corporal at a checking point along Bauchi-Gombe road and absconded with their riffles.
Report says the attack was launched on the cops at about 9am local time, killing two of the officers on the spot, with the third confirmed dead in the hospital later while the only survivor, the fourth policeman, escaped with his rifle by fleeing into the bush when the gunmen struck.
Spokesman for the state police command, Mohammed Auyo confirmed the attack. He added that investigations had begun into the incident.
Auyo, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who said that a team of policemen had combed the scene of the attack in search of the culprits, expressed optimism that the gunmen would be apprehended.
One of the policemen, who was one of those that went to the scene, said the hoodlums were still there before their arrival.
The PPRO solicited for useful information from members of the public that will assist the police in arresting the suspects.
No group has claimed responsibility yet for the attack.
