The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 14-year-old girl over the alleged murder of a 71-year-old woman, Mrs. Helen Adodo, Benin City.
The crime took place in Guoabadia Street.
Mrs Adodo employed the teenage girl in March 2018 to assist her in the day to day activities as she suffered from a stroke.
The suspect was said to have smashed the woman’s head with a stone on Tuesday.
Though, some believed burglars sneaked into the residence, blindfolded Amos before killing the deceased, however, the young girl confessed on a video obtained by reporters.
In the video, she claimed something took over her as she didn’t realize she had smashed her employer’s head until it was too late.
“When I took some plates outside, I took a broom and swept outside. I stood on the stone and looked up and down. When I did that, something entered my body. I stood on the stone again and looked up and down.
“I took the stone and entered the room but I did not know when I hit her head with the stone.
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor who confirmed the incident said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
“According to the investigation, the woman has been going through a lot of challenges with her health and before her death, she was down with a stroke. So, perhaps somebody else did it and asked this little one to own up as the culprit,” he said
He assured that the police will do its best in the ongoing investigation to unravel the situation and make the report public, saying “for now, only the girl has been arrested.”
