Lagos Assembly confirms Auditor –General

Nigeria’s Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday evening confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Helen Deile as new Auditor-General of the State.

The lawmakers had screened and confirmed Mrs. Deile on the floor of the House following a letter sent to the House last week by Governor Babatunde Fashola nominating her for the position.

While responding to questions posed by the lawmakers, Mrs. Deile said that she would work closely with the House Committee on Public Account (State) so as to improve on the audit system of the state promising to ensure transparency and accountability in the day to day running of her office.

She told the lawmakers that the state governor had consented to the fact that there is need for more qualified auditors in the state.

She said it was based on this that an approval for 25 qualified auditors had been approved.

Born in the Epe area of Lagos in August, 1961, Mrs. Deile graduated from Yaba College of Technology where she studied Accountancy in 1988 before proceeding to the University of Lagos, Akoka where she bagged Masters in Business Administration.

She is a member of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Deile had worked in the private sector before she joined Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue.

She had also worked as Chief Finance Officer in various local governments of the state before she became a director at the Office of the State Auditor-General in April, 2006.
