Residential property with shops to be taxed in Edo State

….Says blocks of four flats to be taxed too

Edo State government is to adhere to the strict enforcement of the Land Use charge Law, with the exemption of recognized and approved places of religious worship, the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Francis Evbuomwan has said.

Oshiomhole

This was contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Rabi Umoru.

While inspecting the Land Use charge new office presently under construction in Benin City, Evbuomwan said notification and enlightenment on the Land Use charges would be done in due course.

According to the commissioner, efforts are towards implementation and enforcement of the law as the ministry has embarked on property enumeration and valuation in different parts of Benin City in line with the law.

The law was signed into law in by Governor Adams Oshiomhole in 2012 to help government optimize the use of land and landed property in Edo State through appropriate taxation.

The commissioner gave an insight the import of the law, saying it allows taxation of four categories of property.

He listed the categories to include, Residential Property Land size in excess of 100feet by 50feet); Commercial /Residential property; commercial property and Industrial/ Manufacturing property.

Residential property with shops in them and blocks of four flats, the commissioner said would be taxed under the Commercial / Residential property category.

This is one of the most obnoxious laws ever enacted. Francis Evbuomwan should resign because he does not have a good plan for Edolites.Other Commissioners in other states are building more housing for their people not introducing obnoxious taxes.

It’s a welcome development if the money will be channel into projects aimed at bringing progress to the state. However, with what we hear and see in government now, one can easily say that the proceeds of the tax will go to some individuals’ pockets. Edo state House of assembly is a clear example where allegation of #50 million, #30 million and prado jeeps are being lay.

Gone are those days when children used to sing ”Parents, listen to your children, we are the leaders of tomorrow, try to pay our school fees and give us sound education” now in Nigeria, our prayers are now the musicians singing ”Oh Sarah Sarah, whatever you be you be, the future is not ours to see, oh Sarah Sarah” Which leaders of tomorrow?

We will keep watching but our youth that are leaders of 2mao should stop helping our political vampires.
The EDHA has turned to a battle field for law makers. These are the pipo who are supposed to be implementing what will help in developing the state. It is so obvious that, they make law that will only suit them and when it turns around, then it results to battle. Seriously, we are watching. @ Abu, faith and Constance, it is well

You pay taxes you see what the taxes are use for. salary is taxed 39% entitle for free health care, free primary and Secondary school, grant up to £12,000 yearly for university undergraduate if you are not working, no job you assure of nice accommodation and clothing allowance just to mention but few. weekly upkeep. Please tell our rulers the truth.

Every good soup na money bring am. If we want development and good things for the state, people should be ready to sacrifice. Europe today and America, its TAX that the people paid that made those countries what they are today. Right here where i live, we pay tax for everything including the house that we buy or rent ” council Tax ” it is composary for evey land owner or somebody renting. The reason why people does not complain is that, atleast we see what they do with the money. Nothing is wrong if people pay TAX as far as they see what they are paying TAX for. We should not forget that the govt have to source for income to do all these projects that many so yearn for Edo State.

Oga Victor Oshioke and Abu Cosmas a shop owner pays the following to EDSG every year:

    – Shop rate to Oredo LGA.
    – Business premises to EDSG.
    – Direct Assessment to EDSG (BIR).
    – Outdoor advert.

We appreciate our comrade governor’s works in Edo state, but he is gradually turning against the massess.

Landlords and landladies will pass the burden to their tenants. This is not fair.

Much as we appreciate all that the comrade governor is doing in Edo state in terms of infrastructural development, road network etc, he shouldn’t frustrate or kill our people with Tax, Tax on salary fine, but he shouldn’t feel Edo is Lagos were you have company’s and were residences are converted to public biz abode, or else, his story and achievement will be eroded. He should go and ask fayemi why he fail
