Retired DPO, wife kidnapped in Edo

Gunmen have kidnapped a retired Superintendent of Police and former Divisional Police Officer, Chief James Omafuaire, his wife and customer at his Ikpeshi Quarry site in Akoko Edo Council Area of Edo State.

It was gathered that the kidnappers are demanding N25 million as ransom before freeing the 80-year-old indigene of Delta state.

It was further gathered that Omafuaire, who is an elder brother of Vanguard Newspaper Senior Photojournalist, Akpokona Omafuaire, was kidnapped along with his wife, Victoria Omafuaire, and a customer while in the site but the wife was released afterwards.

It was gathered that the kidnappers called his son, Charles Omafuaire, later Monday night demanding N25 million ransom before his release.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Moses Nkombe, confirmed the incident.

“Yes, the man has been kidnapped. Policemen have been deployed to the area to effect his release. The perpetrators will soon be brought to book,” he said.
