- says evidence links the PDP candidate to the collapse of Bank PHB.
Nigeria Minister of Information Alhaji Lai Mohammed said that the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has questions to answer when he returned from the United States of America.
Atiku landed in the US yesterday after years of speculations that he couldn’t enter the country.
Addressing the press on Friday, Lai Mohammed said a new evidence against Atiku Abubakar had emerged and the presidential hopeful must explain to Nigeria his role in the collapse of Bank PHB.
Lai Mohammed also added that Atiku’s visit to the US will not save him from imminent defeat in the next month general election.
“We are not perturbed one bit. He can go ahead and get a U.S. green card. That will not save him from imminent defeat in the forthcoming election,” Mr Mohammed said.
He continued “I don’t need to remind Atiku Abubakar that the election will be held here in Nigeria and not in the US.
“In any event, any time Alhaji Abubakar returns home he has questions to answer following the fresh evidence that we have that he benefited from the slush fund that led to the collapse of the former Bank PHB.
“The paper trail which we have here shows that he benefited to the tune of N150m naira from that slush fund and we have evidence here of the account mandate in the name of Atiku Abubakar, we also have a copy of the cheque in which the sum of N150m was given to Atiku Abubakar dated 13th, 2019, and of course we also have the evidence of account within that period that confirmed within that period that this sum was actually paid into his account.
“So, this fresh evidence as to his involvement in the collapse of Bank PHB, we want him to stay as long as he wants in the US but as soon as he comes back, he has to explain to the electorate and Nigerians what is wrong, what led to the collapse of the former Bank PHB” The Minister said.
