One of the heavy contenders of the office of the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Raymond Dokpesi has called on the party leader to rectify the malpractice that took place at the National Convention in Abuja today.
Dokpesi was referring to the distribution of what he called the Unity List among the delegates at the convention venue.
It seems the list was given to the delegates to make sure a certain candidate is voted for unanimously at the convention.
Punch Newspaper reported that Dokpesi’s name was missing on the list, which was described as the preferred candidates by the 11 governors elected on the platform of the party for various positions.
The aspirant described the move as a charade which may destroy the party that is attempt to revive
Dokpesi addressed journalist at the convention, adding that the distribution of the list had compromised the process of voting.
The aggrieve PDP chieftain explained that the 21 names of candidate contained in the list appeared on the ballot paper as number one and in the voting boots as number one
Dokpesi revealed that he had complained to the Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee, Dr. Gabriel Susuan, who also said he had seen the lists with some delegates.
Dokpesi said it was unfortunate that a party which was just getting out of a major leadership crisis would be “involved in acts of impunity and election malpractice.”
