Despite the reactions the statement credited to the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari generated, where he called Nigerians lazy, the Comptroller-General of the Custom Service, Hammed Ali made a similar statement on Tuesday.

The Custom boss said only lazy Nigerians are hungry under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, adding that manna does not fall from heaven.

Ali said this while listing the President’s achievement during a visit by members of Buhari Support Organization to the Presidential Villa, Abuja,.

It could be recall that President Muhammadu Buhari first made the statement at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster  where he claimed Nigerians were waiting for the government to give them allowances instead of working.

Buhari had said”We have a very young population. More than 60% of the population is below the age of 30. A lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria has been an oil-producing country, therefore they should sit and do nothing and get housing, healthcare, education free.”

The Custom boss on Tuesday who praised Buhari’s audacity to run for a second term despite his age said he couldn’t have, adding that the President was only running for the love he has for the nation.

He said, “What more can we say in terms of growth of wealth? People say we are hungry. Of course, the lazy must be hungry because if you do not work hard, manna doesn’t fall from heaven.

“So, when people say we are hungry, there was never a time in Nigeria that food was dropped in the mouth of the people and there can never be.”

He assured the President that Nigerians were behind his second term bid.

“All we want to say on behalf of Nigerians is that we are solidly behind you in this second term bid,” Ali told Buhari.

He said, “I have said it and I will repeat it here, Mr. President, with all due respect, at 70 plus, with good retirement benefits and with your house in Daura, if I were you, I will see no reason to be in this arena.

“But why are you here? It is because you love this great country. You left your comfort to serve Nigeria and that is why those of us who love you for who you are must follow you and ensure that your second term in this country becomes a reality.”

Ali stressed that he had been stepping on toes carrying out his duty because of the confidence in has for the President’s anti-graft war, adding that the President has changed Nigeria for the better and has succeeded in blocking all manners of siphoning the nation’s wealth.
