Participants not less than 760 in number have already registered to partake in the 10th edition of the 42-kilometres Ibadan City Marathon scheduled to hold on April 8.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mrs. Oyebisi Ashimolowo disclosed this while unveiling activities associated with the race.
He said the theme of the race, “Keep it Fit’’, was carefully chosen to encourage the people to keep themselves healthy and fit’.
According to Her, ‘No fewer than 600 participants have registered online, while more than 160 others have already picked the registration form manually’.
Asimolowo said “This edition of the marathon which started in 2009 will comprise the wheelchair race, artisan race, corporate race and group race.
“The aim of this edition of the competition is to encourage people to have fun and keep themselves fit,” said the committee chairman.
The first male runner-up in the main race will go home with prize money of N1 million and winner of the female runners in the main race would go home with the prize money of N800,000.
This year’s edition marks the 10th edition of the marathon race and is sponsored by Splash FM, an Ibadan based private Radio station, owned by West Midland Communications.
Mr. Femi Ajao, the South-West Zonal Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, during the occasion expressed appreciation to Splash FM and others who have helped one way or the other in sustaining the race these past years.
He said plans are being put in places to change the course of the race in the 10th edition in such a way that it will showcase the massive infrastructural development in the state and heritage and monumental sites.
